You mean like how Perl has forked? And Python and Ruby?
Oh wait, that's right -- none of those open sourced languages have forked. There's nothing stopping someone from forking Python and doing whatever, but those projects never have a significant following and they die off or are hopelessly irrelevant to the masses.
When Java is open sourced it will be completely possible to fork it, but such an insignificant number of people will use that fork. It's nothing to worry about. Again, just look at other open source langs. Nothing to fear.
