It is very unlikely that using a more open license will lead to platform-specific forks (how many forks of Apache projects can you find? Mozilla? Eclipse? yadda^3)
OTOH commercial developers are VERY fearful of GPL, as it threatens to taint every code remotely related to it. (e.g. everything that links it)
If you *must* use an RMS license, please use LGPL
("lesser" / "library" "liveable" ) GPL.
That said, I''d vote for Apache, MIT-style, BSD-style, .... almost anything but GPL.
