JEDI is a collaborative project that aims to make high-quality, industry-endorsed IT and Computer Science course material available for free. The course materials are developed with inputs from industry and conforms to international education standards. JEDI materials and resources are developed, used and enhanced in a collaborative environment using java.net.

JEDI is a project of Sun Microsystems, Inc. through the University of the Philippines Java Research and Development Center and in partnership with various groups from the Education and Industry Sectors.

JEDI member institutions immediately gain access to a whole suite of resources to enhance teaching and learning experience:

Q: How do schools join JEDI?

A: They simply have to send completed application forms together with faculty profiles and curriculum through e-mail at info@jediproject.net.

Q: Can technical schools apply for JEDI?

A: Currently, JEDI only caters to the schools with BSCS and/or BSIT programs. However, since JEDI is designed as an open source program, they may download the courseware through the Internet. The schools are free to use this courseware for their own programs but they would not be able to access some of the other JEDI benefits like the helpdesk, which are exclusive to JEDI members.

Q: How will the teacher training proceed?

A: Teachers will undergo the JEDI T3 where the concepts on the revised course curriculum will be discussed. This training aims to: Allow teachers to conduct/teach course effectively; Gain new teaching techniques/concepts to develop a better teaching strategy; and Integrate Java effectively in the curricula. JEDI T3 training venue depends on the JEDI Team’s schedule but are held near your city or region.

Q: Is JEDI a long-term project?

A: Yes, JEDI is a long-term project. It involves several waves of training. Because the goal is to develop the curriculum, the training will progress as more subjects/courses are revised and developed.

Q: How is JEDI industry-relevant?

A: The curriculum for JEDI will be studied and reviewed by members from the Academe, Oracle, and the Industry itself. The inputs from the members of the Industry will ensure that the schools will teach the skills they require for hiring. The result, therefore, is a courseware that meets their quality standards.

Q: What are the schools’ responsibilities to Oracle if they join JEDI?

A: The schools have to give Oracle feedback on the project through assessment forms, which Oracle will provide, and statistical data. Schools are expected to encourage their teachers to contribute back to the JEDI program. Remember that this is an OPEN project – a two-way collaboration among teachers and not a one-way thing

Interested parties must accomplish the application form. Completed application form must be endorsed and SIGNED by the College Dean and/or University President to vouch for the eligibility of the application. Signed applications must be submitted via courier or postal mail to:
