          This is a tricky issue.
Items in the layer list are not necessarily the same as items on the map.
In fact, layers are usually an aggregation of items on the map.
For example a task with an activity field and treatment zones, is displayed on the map as several treatment zones, where it is represented in the layer list by a single node representing the task.

When using the icon based layerlist, we could do something with highlighting to indicate activity in its children, in the textual layerlist (extended mode) this would be more difficult to visualize.

          as discussed on phone.
after import, as soon as a treatment zone is selected, select the whole field and indicate it in the explorer list.
after convert, it is only possible to select the whole field already. Should be no problem.

Just as one can open a cropfield in the layer of a Crop production unit, one should be able to see in the layerlist that which layer is selected.
Another option is showing a label: for field: fieldname, for cropfield cropfield name and crop (optionally variety)
