The quoting shown by hans_hrasna works for properties that already exist in the
configuration. However, it doesn't work for creating a new property that contains
        a ".".

This problem still exists in 3.1.

        Fixed in revision 41941.
It is still necessary to escape dots with \ to be able to set properties with dots
        in their names.
