        There should be some other exception in the log prior to this one. Looks like ORB didn't start.

        I looked into the log, and there is only one other entry before that one. It happened right after starting the glassfish with an deployed ear. The other messages are info level.

        May be even earlier? How did you install GlassFish? Are you running a default install? Is it a cluster or a stand-alone instance?

        Even after the starts before, there did'nt occur another exception. It is a default install. Stand-alone instance. Installation by zip.

        It looks like some synchronization error because your server was restarted several times prior to that without any problem. Can you attach a reproducible test case?

        For now I'm transferring this to ORB as it somehow returns null for the protocolManager...

        I'm sorry, but this isn't really reproduceable. But sometimes we get some CORBA NOPERMISSION when trying to connect to the server via rmi. I'm not sure if this is connected to this issue. There is an execption that lazy loading the iiop listener is not allowed.

        Are you using default settings in domain.xml for <iiop-service> element ? Or is anything modified ?

        Does netstat show iiop ports in "LISTEN" state ?
        $ netstat -an | grep 3700
        .3700 *. 0 0 49152 0 LISTEN
        $ netstat -an | grep 3820
