Can you try this with CLI ?
ping-node-dcom for DCOM node, and ping-node-ssh for SSH node.

I have created a SSH node on my solaris, and I can ping that without issue.

As you mentioned in your description, the browser output says:

"Failed to validate SSH connection to node test (localhost) Could not connect to host localhost using SSH. There was a problem while connecting to localhost:22 Connection refused: connect"

This tells you the ping failed, cannot connect to it.
So, console is able to display the error information that the backend says and show that error correctly in the browser for user.
        This is working as designed.
