This one actually happened when I enabled HeapDump on OOME.

When doing HeapDump I got the exception described on bug400 .

any update on this? Can we have VisualVM at least tell us what option can't be set and what are the likely consequences?
        I'm seeing this on

        mbp:~ had$ java -version
        java version "1.6.0_24"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_24-b07-334-10M3326)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 19.1-b02-334, mixed mode)
        mbp:~ had$ uname -a
        Darwin mbp.local 10.7.0 Darwin Kernel Version 10.7.0: Sat Jan 29 15:17:16 PST 2011; root:xnu-1504.9.37~1/RELEASE_I386 i386

... and at he same time I'm not able to run memory sampling with "Not available. Cannot connect to target application. Make sure the application is running on a supported JDK 6 or JDK 7." ... but JDK 6 on MacOSX is said to be supported, right?
        Are those 2 problems related?

The NPE is caused by JDK bug. See http://bugs.sun.com/view_bug.do?bug_id=6858708 for more details.
