can't install.

 Description

I've run the following installer many times:

  • glassfish-3.1.1-windows.exe

The installer doesn't say if it expects 32-bit or 64-bit system, jre, or jdk. So I tried the common combinations.

The installer CONSISTENTLY freezes at about 41% (see screen shots attached) and hangs. The install gets to that point quite quickly. The longest I've left it hang is about 3 hours.

Dup of http://java.net/jira/browse/GLASSFISH-16143

I don't agree with "Close"-ing this error. The facts remain that I cannot install Glassfish 3.1.1 on a Windows/7 64-bit system.

According to the "duplicate" bug this problem is linked to, it is NOT scheduled to be fixed and there's no work around. Also as I read the other error, it concerns the Installer.

I am of a different mind, if a product can't be installed – That's a fundamental and catastrophic failure in ALL functions.

Per the http://java.net/jira/browse/GLASSFISH-16143 error everyone who will have this issue recur for v3.1.1 of Glassfish must wait for a later release. I suggest looking at JBOSS or Apache.

16143 is targeted for 3.1.2(coming out early 2012). We will update the bug with the workaround soon. In the mean time please use our .zip based distribution to install GlassFish.

Another potential workaround is to deselect installer option to install update client and proceed with installation.
