Comment by arkelly [ 13/Jul/11 ]

This search box uses Kenai search. However, the search is working if you search for the project title "Simple Tray Notify" rather than its project name "simpletraynotify" so I think the search is working as designed.

Comment by sonyabarry [ 14/Jul/11 ]

disagree - if search is working as designed then there's a bug in the design - a lot of projects are referred to by their URL name - we should be able to find them that way too. I'll file a bug in Kenai.

Blog Comments are rendered weird! Look at the comments in this blog entry for example:

http://weblogs.java.net/blog/cayhorstmann/archive/2011/07/29/java-7-unsafe-any-speed

The title of each comment is starting with <p>, and [quote] is not rendered but effectively printed as code on the screen! This totally screws the presentation!

 Comments
Comment by fnikola [ 05/Aug/11 ]

Updated to strip out HTML and BBcode tags from the subject when automatically setting it from the actual comment that is entered.

The <p> tags (or any other HTML tags) will no longer be displayed in the comment subject.

Comment by mkarg [ 06/Aug/11 ]

Looking at the above sample URL I noticed that your fix seems to not correct already entered comments, which is a bit poor, as there are lots of comments screwed already. It would be great if you could runs some SQL against the comments database to fix that.

Also please note that it is not just HTML that screws the headers but also the WIKI syntax.

 Description

The "My Questions" view's left most column (the one without a header, showing coloured circles) seems to have the function to indicate whether there is new content. In fact, some of the circles are gray and others are green. I suspect that green means "New Information, Look at this one!". Unfortunately, the colours never change, independent whether I look at that or not. It seems it just does never reset the status of the questions.

 Comments
Comment by fnikola [ 12/Jul/11 ]

that column is misleading in this view because content is not flagged as new to yourself (since you just added/updated the content - it is not new to you). new content is only flagged for content that is created by other users. we either remove this column or add processing to indicate new posts within the last x amount of days instead of new content that you have not viewed.

however, if another users comments on that forum topic your question will be flagged as new.

 Description

The latest release of net.java.dev.webdav/jaxrs is 1.1.1 in the "old" java.net Maven Repository, but you forwarded 1.1 to the Maven Central Repository. Why? Obviously on Maven Central there should be the latest bug fix, not some older and more buggy release. What to do now to fix this ASAP?

 Comments
Comment by Brian Fox [ 07/Sep/11 ]

The entire Maven1 and Maven2 repos were migrated. The artifacts in Central at:
http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/net/java/dev/webdav/jaxrs/

came from:

http://download.java.net/maven/2/net/java/dev/webdav/jaxrs/

you can see that there was 1.1 and 1.2-SNAPSHOT. Snapshots are not allowed in Central so it wasn't migrated. There is no 1.1.1 in the repository, so this is why it's not in Central.

To get newer versions updated, you need to deploy them now to https://maven.java.net. See http://java.net/projects/maven2-repository/pages/MigrationAndCleanupRelatedDocumentation for more information.

Comment by sonyabarry [ 04/Nov/11 ]

mkarg - OK to close this now?

Comment by mkarg [ 04/Nov/11 ]

No, it is not ok to close this case, as there IS a 1.1.1. See here:

http://download.java.net/maven/2/net/java/dev/webdav/webdav-jaxrs/

Comment by juven [ 07/Nov/11 ]

mkarg,

I think you should look at http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/net/java/dev/webdav/webdav-jaxrs/ instead of http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/net/java/dev/webdav/jaxrs/

Juven

Comment by mkarg [ 08/Nov/11 ]

You misunderstood the problem. The 1.1.1 was release under that URL, independent whether that is the right or wrong path. So you should migrate the 1.1.1 to the new repo now. That is the intention of this case.

Comment by juven [ 08/Nov/11 ]

the pom http://download.java.net/maven/2/net/java/dev/webdav/webdav-jaxrs/1.1.1/webdav-jaxrs-1.1.1.pom has

groupId: net.java.dev.webdav
artifactId: webdav-jaxrs
version: 1.1.1

these implies path: /net/java/dev/webdav/webdav-jaxrs/1.1.1

so I don't see the intention to http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/net/java/dev/webdav/jaxrs/

 Description

First, to set some basic expectations - we do not currently have full localization support on the site, so while the content will be entirely in your languages, the headers, footers, and links back to the main site will remain in English (as all the content they are pointing to is in English anyway).

If you haven't already, please take a look at the FX and Embedded pages for ideas about what we can do with the spaces - http://community.java.net/community/javafx and http://community.java.net/community/embedded.

What Frank will be looking for from you to start with is a list of twitter handles, tags, and blogs to follow so we can automate delivery of new content. He'll also help you set up custom spaces where you can add news and community information to the page, and you can choose how much or how little you want to update.

I'd also like to do an official proposal to the Java.net Community Leaders to establish these as official language-based communities on the site. At this point it's really a formality, but I think it's a good thing to do. If any of you object, please let me know. I promise this official designation does not require any more work from you! We have a mailing list that is fairly low traffic and we host a telephone meeting every other week or so for community news that I try to keep short. The meeting is not mandatory and when I can I try to record them and release them as an mp3 to the leads so they can catch up on their own time.

Finally, if you have ideas for other people in your language area that you would like to invite to be involved, please do so. I'd love to see as much cross-cultural participation within these language groups as possible.

Thank you all for your time and ideas!

The current Community Pages primarily aggregate content from other sources (blog feeds, twitter, you tube, etc.), but do have "blocks" for content to be manually entered.

The template for these pages is attached and includes the following sections/blocks:

A1. Community Resources. Block to add any links to resources.
Manual Edit through HTML edit (edit link under block)
A2. Community Leaders. Block to list the community leaders.

B2. Newest Projects. Block to list the latest community projects from Kenai.

Manual edit through CMS add/manage link in left column under "Community Leader Tools"

C5. Community Videos. Block for manual entry of videos.

As Sonya stated the first step is for you to send me the information for the feeds and tweets and anything else we can pull in via feeds (C3 and C4) and the translation of the community page that exists now (C1). I'll also need your java.net ID so we can give you the appropriate permissions on your Community Page.

We can customize the template to fit your community localization needs and move around blocks, highlight them, delete them or add new blocks.

Please contact me, Frank, with any questions regarding the template.

From KENAI-4038

In the upper right hand corner just under 'Create Account' and 'Login' or 'Welcome, [username]' and Logout there is a search field.
Check the 'Projects' checkbox (which behaves like a radio button)
Type any public project listed in the list such as 'bouncescore' and hit the search icon.
Note: Sometimes you have to check more than once before you see it.

Behavior: A warning pops up: "Although this page is encrypted, the information you have entered is to be sent over an unencrypted connection and could easily be read by a third party. Are you sure you want to continue sending this information?"

The following html was found -> <form action="http://www.java.net/search/node" method="post" id="search-theme-form">

It was suspected the warning is appearing because that should be a httpS as opposed to http.

This feature is requested for the JavaFX Community and Java Ambassadors sites, but I think would apply to other sites. The entries in the News and Announcement section are not delineated as well as they could be, and they don't display the optional image on the front page. It would be nice to show the optional image on an announcement on the front page, and it would also be nice for the announcements to be better delineated so that they are more readable.

 Description

In migrating projects from opensolaris.org we are losing a place to perform code reviews. Previously, we had cr.opensolaris.org where we could post webrevs (a bundle of html documents that displayed diffs of the change(s) in question). Originally it was a simple interface – rsync or scp/sftp a directory of files into a per-user directory. When the core kernel code became closed-source again and people were found accidentally posting reviews to the external site, it became mandatory to go through a web interface, uploading a zip file.

The rsync interface was really nice, and it would be nice to have that option again. The web front-end was essentially non-existent, except for a page of instructions. That would make implementing it trivial. A fuller management interface might be nice if it were implemented nicely – perhaps even a place to stick a reviewboard interface – but that's less critical.

The test case is as follows on Chrome:
1. Sign in to java.net with your user id
2. Exit the browser completely(all tabs), without logging out of java.net
3. Start Chrome
4. navigate to the java.net site

Just noticed that more and more "old" forum posts are not found, for some links the mapping to new forum coordinates didn't seem to have happened at all, for some the mapping had happened, but the then "new" link is no longer valid. An example for the latter is shown in

http://java.net/jira/browse/SWINGX-1272

the "old" was:

http://forums.java.net/jive/message.jspa?messageID=387603

the "new" was:

http://www.java.net/forum/topic/javadesktop/java-desktop-technologies/swinglabs/jxtreetable-custom-cell-editor-0

the current is:

http://www.java.net/node/701358

Bug or feature? Needless to say that loosing community knowledge is not overly amusing

The comments are indented. After a lengthy discussion, they get shoved so far to the right that they become hard to read. The text part gets too narrow. It helps a little to maximize the window, but only up to a point. (And not everyone has a neat super-wide hi-res screen).

Furthermore, the indentation steals and wastes increasingly large amounts of precious screen real etate. And please note that e.g. logs and code examples are best viewed when lines are not broken too much.

This is an unecessary and most irritating feature. Please remove it.

Have you been able to post a forum topic since? This may have been related to the anti spam software the site is using.

When you try to create a new forum post, the text entry field for the body of the post appears to extend to the right hand side of the browser window, which places part of it beneath the "Formatting Help" sidebar on the right side, obscuring part of the editor. I'm attaching a screenshot.

hi. we are looking into the issue now. it seems that this only happens when the size of the window is smaller. have you noticed that you can see the entire text area if you expand your screen? also, can you tell me your screen size/resolution. thanks.

Comment by tizzo [ 30/May/12 ]

Hi. My screen resolution is 1024x768 and I observe this problem with my browser maximized. If I adjust my screen resolution to 1280x1024 and maximize, I can see the entire Body box - but that's a little hard on the eyes. So I think you're right, the problem is with making an unwarranted assumption about the screen size. Thanks.

Comment by fnikola [ 30/May/12 ]

Ok, yes, I have conformed this behavior and will look at making the text area compatible with a 1024x768 resolution. Thanks for your reply!

Hi Fabrizio. Your blog does work at http://www.java.net/blogs/fabriziogiudici/ and the links on the site point to that URL. Can you tell me the link you clicked to access http://www.java.net/blog/fabriziogiudici/ or did you type that in the URL based on your blog entry?

I will be looking at this "access denied" issue for http://www.java.net/blog/fabriziogiudici to resolve it.

Thanks,
Frank

Comment by fabriziogiudici [ 29/Sep/12 ]

Hi Frank. I can't remember the link, it wasn't on my pages neither at Java.Net, I only recall I clicked on some site this morning. But for me it's not a problem - the important thing that there's a working link. I'm going to use some of my blog posts in a presentation in the next days.

So for me the problem is over. Thanks.

This seems to be an ongoing issue. From an email to Sonya from Martin Klähn grazertwo@gmail.com:

I was following (although undesired at the time - a click on the wrong part of the screen) the link to sonyabarry's blog on http://weblogs.java.net/blog/sonyabarry/archive/2012/09/24/javanet-javaone-2012 and i received a message telling me I'm forbidden to see this page. The current design of these indicators is linked to each user. Therefore, each post that has not been seen by a logged on user is flagged as new (green) and after the user sees it it will be marked as not new (gray). When not logged in the site treats the user as anonymous and it cannot determine if the post has been seen by the user and displays gray icon.

Perhaps we could keep the existing logic for logged on users and update the logic for anonymous users so that any post within a predetermined amount of time (1 day?) will be flagged as new (green).

 Description

Kenai.com is supposed to be superseded by the new Java.net infrastructure. Months ago, some comments were made about plans to provide tools to ease migration from Kenai.com to Java.net, but no other news have happened since then. There is some uncertainty about this, so it would be nice that a post were published in both Kenai.com and Java.net making clear these points:

1) Is there any schedule to shutdown Kenai.com?

2) Is Kenai.com still receiving maintenance and/or operators time?

3) Is there any plan to migrate Kenai.com projects, especially the contents other than in SCM repositories (like wikis, blogs, forums, etc.)?

4) If the answer to 3) is No or there is no schedule for it, are there any hints to manually migrate the projects from Kenai.com to Java.net?

In my case, I have a project in Kenai.com that currently uses just a Mercurial repo and the downloads section, but now I need to set up a wiki for docs. As migrating the wiki would be a manual task and I could have difficulties keeping track of the images to be migrated, I'd rather know if it is better to migrate to Jave.net or stay at Kenai.com.

 Comments
Comment by RickieES [ 08/Oct/12 ]

Just after creating this issue I have found this thread in Java.net forums:

http://www.java.net/forum/topic/site-help/migrating-project-kenaicom-javanet

I guess it answers some of the points outlined in the description:

1) No schedule yet. It seems that Keani.com will be alive at least until 2014.

2) IIUC, yes, its stack is receiving updated at the same time Java.net does.

3) Not yet, and people won't be able to start seriously looking at it before, probably, 2014.

4) No hints for manual migration. Owners of projects based at Kenai.com are welcomed to migrate the content themselves to Java.net (or even to keep the sister projects in sync both in Kenai.com and Java.net)

Still, I feel (and other participants in them mentioned forum thread too) that a post in Kenai.com with this information is much desired. Probably just copying and pasting the questions and answers in this issue with a "Q & A regarding Kenai.com migration to Java.net" title would be enough.

We also have the same problem with Toronto JUG (http://tjug.ca/). We do show up on the map, but not in the search.

Comment by kons [ 13/Mar/12 ]

Please update the index for the group 'victorianjug'
http://java.net/projects/victorianjug
The project description was recently updated to include more words that better describe the location.

Currently reflected in the search as 'The Victorian Chapter of the Australian Java User Group.' The describing text under that search result needs updating to match the new victorianjug description.
It points to http://www.java.net/project/victorian-chapter-australian-java-user-group which then redirects to victorianjug.

Acceptance Criteria
Should be able to use JUG search for 'Melbourne', 'Victoria', 'Australia' - and this shows up a link to the victorianjug - including updated description.

Thanks, -K

Comment by fnikola [ 13/Mar/12 ]

Updated the search index for victorianjug and the search results description updates were propagated from the project description changes.

Comment by fnikola [ 13/Mar/12 ]

The Toronto JG seach index updates were completed a while ago and never noted here.

Comment by sonyabarry [ 11/Oct/12 ]

It looks like the Toronto stuff still isn't working properly. Frank, can you get in touch with jfuerth to confirm what needs to be done?

Comment by fnikola [ 17/Oct/12 ]

The reason the JUGS search is not working for Toronto JUG is that there is no project on java.net for them. The search needs a project node in order to find the project.

The search index that was added earlier was added erroneously and linked to an event for the Toronto JUG.

Once the project has been added and associated with the JUGS Community it will be found in the search.

Comment by fnikola [ 19/Oct/12 ]

In order for the JUGs to show in the search results a project must be created. Once the project is created we can make it public and assign it to the JUGs "community". Then the JUG will be found in the search.

Comment by dfraser [ 06/Dec/12 ]

I have created the toronto-jug Java.net project. I added jfuerth as an administrator. Could you please add it to the JUG community?

FWIW I am the co-founder of the Toronto JUG.

Thanks,

Dan

Comment by fnikola [ 06/Dec/12 ]

Hi Dan,

I have made your project public and moved it under the JUGS Community project and it now displays both on the map and in the search!

JSRs cover all aspects of the Java ecosystem such as the new Date and Time API coming into Java 8, the latest JavaEE 7 APIs for the cloud and much more!  Description

Notes from email

All nominees must be sponsored by a current active Java Champion. <- sent to champion-selection-committee@java-champions.java.net

1. We thus need a field on the first page for the Java Champion sponsor. If they don't have one, they must find one. They can leave that field blank, in which case we might still consider him, but we will be more circumspect.

2. We also need fields that they can fill in for the nomination, with links to their achievements and biography, based on the "Who is a good candidate?"

Here are some of the guidelines for selecting new champions (one or several principles may apply):
Java Champions are leaders; ideal candidates are leading Java-related projects, JUG communities, and so on.
Java Champions are technical luminaries; the candidate should be a Java engineer or architect who is relatively senior and has lots of experience.
Java Champions are independent-minded and credible; Java Champions may author or publish content that is pro, neutral, or negative toward Oracle.
Java Champions are involved with some really cool applications of Java Technology or some humanitarian or educational effort. The application must be openly available to the Java community (vs. a company-proprietary or government-classified project).
Java Champions are able to evangelize or influence other developers through their own professional activities (via consulting, teaching, writing, speaking, etc.)

3. Once they are submitted, we need to send a confirmation email to the person who submitted it. The program should then select 5 random JCs on the selection committee list (see mail-list champion-selection-committee) and should allow them to vote: Yes, No, Undecided. There should also be a comment field. The program should prompt the selection committee if no vote comes in within a week. Also, if someone is Undecided, then perhaps the program can appoint another random person to evaluate the submission. In order to keep everything in the open, the program should send emails to the champion-selection-committee list whenever an event occurs, for example:

3.1 New candidate submitted
3.2 Kirk voted YES
3.3 Mattias voted NO - "This guy came to JFokus and spoke on atomics but he had absolutely no clue and was an embarrassment to my conference."
3.4 Heinz voted YES - "He has written the JCoolStuffWidgets framework that is in use with a lot of my clients."

etc.

Obviously we could discuss the various concerns on the mailing list if it is not a slam-dunk submission and we should be allowed to change our vote. Once we have consensus, meaning that we don't have any NOs, but we can have Undecideds, then the system can send an email to the person inviting them to accept the nomination.

If no consensus is reached then the nomination is set aside for at least 3 months. A re-evaluation will be made if anyone wishes to re-open the case after the 3 month period. If no consensus is reached in the re-evaluation then the nomination is shelved. A new committee will be formed for each nomination.

All documented here:

http://java.net/projects/java-champions/downloads/download/Java%20Champion%20Nomination%20Process.doc

Comment by kleopatra [ 19/Nov/12 ]

hmm ... not sure it's a bridge problem - I'm seeing the issues on the forum itself, not on the mailing list/s (indeed, didn't use them for a long while).

The bridge should be back up now. I'll keep an eye on it to see if messages are flowing both ways.

[ABOUT-191] java.net JIRA integration with Github Created: 15/Feb/15  Updated: 15/Feb/15

 Description

I don't know if this is the right project for the issue, but I'll try:

we use the java.net JIRA instance as issue tracker for our project:
https://java.net/jira/browse/GLAZEDLISTS

Now we would like to connect JIRA to the corresponding Github account
as outlined here:
http://blogs.atlassian.com/2014/04/connecting-jira-6-2-github/

Is that possible right now?

The version of the java.net JIRA instance is v6.2.3, ok.
I see that the required JIRA DVCS Connector Plugin is installed, ok.

But when I go to the
development tools section in the JIRA administration section
(https://java.net/jira/secure/ConfigureDevStatus.jspa?projectKey=GLAZEDLISTS),
I don't see a way to add the GitHub repository.
I (user "brands") have the administrator role for the project (group "jira-administrators").

Am I missing something?
It would be great, if this integration would work.
I think other projects could benefit from this as well...

 Description

From my email:

I am using the web based forum mainly because replies are immediately visible.
If you use a mail client, like H sometimes does, it takes a while
before the replies are visible on the forum. However, it seems I cannot change
the threaded view to e.g. a flat list of chronologically ordered posts and it
is driving me crazy.

Maybe I am doing something wrong, but it is very hard to figure out which ones
are the most recent posts. For example, go to the phoneME Advanced forum

http://www.java.net/forums/mobile-embedded/phone-me/phoneme-advanced-software

And try to figure out the last post in the WINCE501bException thread.

Clicking on the user name who last sent a message does not work. If you click
on the WINCE501bException link, you end up at the top of page 1 of the thread.
If you click on [Last post] in the top bar at the right, you definitely do not
get the last post.

Now try to find the last but one post. Is it on page 1 or page 2? Your guess
is as good as mine.

Can I change the view somehow?

We are currently reviewing this issue and it may be because of the delay in processing the posts from the mailing list.

Comment by arkelly [ 17/May/11 ]

This is a complex thread, but the last post appears to be showing correctly at the top of the thread. The [last post] definitely isn't working correctly, so changing this issue to a bug in the [last post] link, keeping as major.

Changing this to enhancement as the module does not perform this way by design. Downgrading priority to minor.

From the feedback alias:

"...What I would really like to see is an obvious link to comments for the current poll or some
indication that there are no such comments; e.g., a count of the number of comments, showing 0 if

We should add links to comments with counts to this page: http://home.java.net/today/polls/index.csp

There should also be a link to comments and a count on the home page for the current poll.

tested using multiple browsers on Windows and Linux

 Description

Selecting an item, then selecting an operation (for example, "Promote to home page" or "Demote from home page"), then clicking "Execute" produces error messages similar to those in the attached image. Sometimes an error message happens immediately after "Execute" is clicked; but usually the error occurs after "Confirm" is clicked on the screen that follows the "Execute" click.

A workaround is available, using the Edit screens for each individual item. However, the promoting and demoting using the HomePage Manage page saves time.

This problem was first noticed around May 24.

Can't attach the image, so I'll email it. A typical error message is:

No row selected. Please select one or more rows.
No operation selected. Please select an operation to perform.

Comment by fnikola [ 07/Jun/13 ]

Updated form caching on the site and should be able to manage the home page items in bulk again.

Just to clarify, most of the wiki pages I'm interested in are not actually in subdirs of Mobileandembedded/PhoneMEAdvanced. Instead they just extend the name. For example, http://wiki.java.net/twiki/bin/view/Mobileandembedded/PhoneMEAdvancedCVMSH is a page I want included in this export request. It is a child page of Mobileandembedded/PhoneMEAdvanced, and is shown to have a hierarchy of java.net > Wiki > Mobileandembedded > PhoneMEAdvanced > PhoneMEAdvancedCVMSH, but as you can see the URL path to this page only specifies Mobileandembedded/PhoneMEAdvancedCVMSH. I would like all child pages of Mobileandembedded/PhoneMEAdvanced to be archived, and any page that matches the pattern Mobileandembedded/PhoneMEAdvanced*

The JCP calendar has been added to the JCP Community Page to the right side navigation. Also, a link to add JCP events to the calendar has been aded for the "jcp" role (jcp_pmo user) under "Community Leader Tools".

Still working through some "bugs" with the iCal functionality.
