Base Installation instructions

Install Virtual Box

Fallback to GNOME desktop

1/ Before starting the VM, increase video memory (to the maximum, let’s be modest) and activate 3D support in the VM’s “Settings-Display-Video” tab.

2/ Install the “Guest Additions” by booting the VM and mount the VirtualBox drive via the "Devices-Install Guest Additions" menu. Complete the process.

3/ Execute “sudo apt-get install virtualbox-ose-guest-utils virtualbox-ose-guest-x11 virtualbox-ose-guest-dkms” in a terminal. Don't replace newer versions, if you are asked.

4/ Execute "sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback".

5/ Logout and in the login screen, select the GNOME classic desktop (via the little round icon on the upper-right corner of the login screen).

6/ Now the desktop is spaciously, fast and you can increase the screen resolution.

(See this blog for screen shots).
