EMG is an application framework for geomatics. Geomatics is the discipline of gathering, storing, processing, and delivering geographic information, or spatially referenced information. WMT is built from EMG through the use of plugins that use EMG's GIS and fire behavior interfaces. WMT is a visualization tool for wildland fire behavior students, instructors and tacticians. The purpose of this tool is to provide an analysis of a potential fire behavior and to visualize the areas of risk and/or opportunity. The project is an effort to enhance the class room training of both wildland firefighters and fire behavior analysts, and to provide useful output on active wildland fires as well as historical fires. WMT is based on the work and training material developed by [ Doug Campbell] and augmented by Marc Castellnou. The following is a summary of Doug's work: :The Campbell Prediction System is a practical way to use on-scene observations in order to determine fire behavior strategies and tactics. A combination of scientific research and the knowledge of the successful firefighters' methods and practices are utilized to explain fire behavior. In these situations the observed fire behavior becomes the baseline for fire behavior predictions. A special logic replaces intuition allowing an explanation of how tactics are developed. Developing a strong case for acting on the potential rather than waiting for the fire to make the change, would avoid the loss of life due to firefighters late reactions. If people could explain what the potential of the fire is in their situation, fewer accidents would occur. The Campbell Prediction System provides the logic and language to do so. The program's fireground analysis logic leverages the BEHAVE algorithms of Rothermel and Albini, as well as the study of Uncertainty Propagation in Wildland Fire Behavior Modeling by Andreas Bachmann. Thanks to Andi Bachmann for contributing his Behave java classes. The 3D visualization features leverage the NASA WorldWind Java SDK and the VisAD SDK. == Participation == There are several ways that you can participate in the Emxsys project: *Monitor Message Forums - Read and discuss fire behavior and/or programming issues in the message forums. membership is required to post messages, but reading messages does not. The General Topics forum is for CPS and fire behavior related topics; the Developer Topics is for programming issues. **Note, if you join this project, then recent forum messages will be conveniently displayed at the bottom of your [ My Page]. **Also note that you can setup an RSS news feed to the Emxsys forums -- look for the RSS feed icon in the forum pages. *Join a Mailing List - Join one of the mailing lists to stay abreast of the project via email -- membership is not required. The General Information List is used to monitor the project status. The Software Commits List is used to monitor changes in the codebase, and the Software Issues List is used to monitor bug reports. *Download and Test - Download and test the WMT software. Testing is a critical component in the development of quality software. Bug reports can be submitted and monitored via [ JIRA Issue Tracking]. *Become a Contributor or Developer - When you join the project you get Observer privileges. After you join, I will send you an email with instructions on how to increase your site privileges to Contributor or Developer. *Follow on Twitter - You can follow this project on Twitter under [ Emxsys]. Are you a member? An account is required to access some features of this project. Creating a user account is free (no strings attached). To join, simply click in the [ Create Account] link at the top of the page. -- [ Bruce Schubert] == How to Install the Software == You can start using the Wildfire Management Tool (WMT) by simply downloading it and installing it. There are versions available for the Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. ===Prerequisites=== You must have Java 7 installed on your computer. * You can download the latest Java for your operating system here: [] ===Where to Download=== The public releases of WMT are hosted on []. Sourceforge was selected for its high visibility and up-time. It's an advertising sponsored site, so be careful not to accidentally click on a download advertisement when you mean to download the WMT software. *Download the latest version for your operating system: [] *Browse the files available for download: [] ===Installation Instructions=== ====Windows==== Simply run the WMT-x.x.x_setup.exe program. ====Mac OSX==== Using the Finder, copy the WMT app from the WMT-x.x.x.dmg file to the Applications folder or the desktop. * Note: don't run WMT from within the .dmg file, otherwise you may see the following alert message: Warning - could not install some modules: Emxsys - License - The module org.netbeans.core/ide/1 was needed and not found. Security Issues *When you attempt to open the WMT app, you may see the following alert message: WMT can't be opened because its from an unidentified developer. Your security settings allow installations of only apps from the App Store and identified developers. Here are the steps to override your security settings and open the app anyway: #In the Finder, locate the WMT app. #Press the Control-key and click the WMT app icon. #Choose Open from the pop-up menu. #Click Open. The app will be stored as an exception to your security settings, and you will be able to open it in the future without warnings. ====Linux==== : Zip image (no installer) for Linux == Software Tutorials == Tutorials for using the Wildfire Management Tool and/or the Emergency Management Geomatics (EMG) #Getting Started #Maps and Overlays #Finding Places #Creating Projects #Markers, Scenes and Symbology #Predicting Potential Wildfire Behavior == Developers == Instructions and guidelines for building the software *How to Build WMT - Instructions for building the Wildfire Management Tool. *Emxsys Programming Guidelines - General programming guidelines used in Emxsys projects. *Java Programming Style Guidelines - General style guidelines for Java code used in the Emxsys projects. *[TODO] Software Architecture NUMBEROFARTICLES
