I've tried entering a user.name and user.email in both the overall Hudson configuration, and in the configuration for a single project, and in both cases, after clicking save, nothing changes, and the values are not saved.

Because it lacks an identity, Hudson can't tag branches, and fails to build my git project.

I did find a workaround for this:

Log into your server and do the following (on Linux):
su hudson # The user hudson runs as - for me it's hudson
git config --global user.name "Hudson User"
git config --global user.email "something@email.com"

That sets the global config for hudson. IT still wont' show up in the management UI, but at least it will allow hudson to checkout and tag projects.

As it turns out, I just needed to update the Git plugin. The current Hudson comes with the git plugin pre-installed, but not updated to the latest version. So just go to "Manage Plugins" under "Manage Hudson" and update the Git plugin. Problem solved! Smile

The bundled Hudson plugins are usually lag by one release, since the plugin itself need to be built on a released version of Hudson. Glad your problem is solved by latest release.
