We're running Ubuntu 11.04 64bit with the native hudson package installed and some unit tests in one of the hudson jobs are accessing the x server due to a PDF generation package that we're using in our project.

Under a fresh boot when the job is built and test run, everything is sunny.

The trouble is that if we stop hudson via the script (sudo /etc/init.d/hudson stop) then restart it (sudo /etc/init.d/hudson start), the test cases concerning the PDF generation fail giving the following error:

Can't connect to X11 window server using ':0' as the value of the DISPLAY variable.

My original idea is that the hudson user didn't have access to the x server but that doesn't fit because it works when the computer is rebooted.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Mark
