Thanks Alan for explaining about refactoring.

I came across this link
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23824_01/html/E24456/gljrb.html which says SUNWxwplt,
SUNWxwinc and SUNWxwpmn are part of the IPS package "pkg:/x11/library/libx11"
but when I do "pkg info -r <SUNW_package_name>" on each of these SUNW packages,
I get a different result. For example, "pkg info -r SUNWxwplt" says that it has
been renamed to "x11/clients" which has further been renamed to
"compatibility/packages/SUNWxwplt". So which IPS package contains SUNWxwplt, is
it "compatibility/packages/SUNWxwplt" or "x11/library/libx11" or both?

For many packages there is no simple one-to-one mapping.

The way software was organized in SVR4 packages is simply different than
the way it's done in the IPS packages, and the X packages were completely
refactored to adapt to that.

SUNWxwplt contained most of the X libraries, but the headers for those libraries
were in SUNWxwinc, and the man pages in SUNWxwpmn.

In IPS there is instead one package per library, containing the library itself
and all the man pages and headers for it.

Trying to map them directly will just not work - you probably don't need
every one of the couple dozen packages that contain parts of the old SUNWxwplt,
but instead just need to figure out which libraries or commands you actually
need from that set.

SUNWbtool was another package that got refactored, not just renamed, so
depending on which tool you need, it may be in system/linker,
developer/base-developer-utilities, or system/core-os now.
