As most of you may have seen, the current Executive Committee Elections
The idea of a Monetary Standard for Java was first openly discussed at QCon
London 2008 in this panel:
am not sure, if Rod Johnson even showed up, but I participated as JCP
Member and Spec Lead, too) as Stephen may recall.Oddly, most of the IT
forethinkers quoted in documents and presentations about Monetary APIs for
Java like Martin Fowler, Erich Gamma, Kent Beck or Venkat Subramaniam were
all there in London, but except for Venkat maybe none of them joined the
It was not until about a year later, when I picked up the topic as recently
elected JCP EC Member in Princeton during an EC F2F, that the Executive
Commitee first heard about it:
Credit Suisse was first ratified in May 2010 and based on earlier F2F
minutes including my Princeton presentation and discussions we had in
subsequent EC meetings, Victor told me in the course of 2011 he was happy
to propose this JSR on behalf of Credit Suisse as Spec Lead.
I played a significant part especially motivating the right people in the
right member companies at the right time to join in on this adventure, and
had I not been visible in the EC, it may have been ignored even until today.
As of the outgoing EC I am the only Individual Member left, and especially
this EG has a significant number of fellow Individual Members, too. Most
affected by ongoing discussions and changes, how IP contribution to JSRs
either as EG Members or in other form, e.g. via Adopt-a-JSR shall be
improved and the barrier for people like you lowered to actively help.
There are many votes available for elected seats, 8 for each voter. If you
feel, at least one or the other Individual shall represent your interests
or those of JSRs like 354 and its users, I'd be happy to continue working
in the EC for another turn. Aside from participation in this or other EGs,
the PMO just published EC participation for 2013
showing I was also active there, especially for an Individual member who
isn't directly paid for this as opposed to corporate members.
