Dear JSR360 specleads and experts,
As mentioned in our last JSR360 EG call it would be desirable from my point
of view to extend the access point concept from only querying and selecting
the access points into something which can also configure and control the
In the past we did implement such mechanisms in our 2G/3G modem products. The
mechanisms basically are:
1.) as described on page 56ff in JSR228 (IMP-NG) the Connector.open of all
networking connections accepts optional parameters to configure and start the
2.) as 1.) has proven to be not enough we added a proprietary class called
BearerControl to get additional status information and to explicitly stop a
bearer. I attached an excerpt of our Java docs to this email.
The mechanism itself can probably not directly be mapped to the AccessPoint
approach as it works a little bit different.
But my feeling is that it would not be too complicated to extend the
AccessPoint and the AccessPointListener class with a functionality like that.
Today I would also skip a mechanism like in the IMP-NG as described as 1.)
above and would only add a BearerControl or AccessPoint class which allows
full control (configure, start, stop, status information) of all networking
interfaces, especially the ones which require some sort of a "dial-up".
Looking forward to getting some feedback on this.
