The idea

Incorporate into the game an Role Play system like D20 to affect game play.

This page is for giving shape to the idea and will be reviewed after implementation as needed.

Benefits

  • Allow NPC creation and interaction in matches.
  • Allow users to create custom wrestlers
  • Defined and more fair experience system.
  • No wrestler needs to be the same to other bringing variety into the mix.
  • Provide data for planned stuff like stamina.
  • Allow custom trademarks and finishers to be created/customized by players!

But...

This will also bring stuff like this into the mix:

  • Owning a page won't be enough to play it. Your wrestler will need to have some abilities to play certain pages (besides momentum limits).
  • Custom trademarks/finishers needs to be public so others can see what they do.
  • Higher level wrestlers can have more HP than lower level.

The challenge

Finding a balance between customized wrestlers and predefined. That's why Dungeons and Dragons core books are a huge reference since their system is pretty refined by now.

Details

All this section is still to be decided and not final.

If you have played Dungeons and Dragons you'll find the following familiar.

Stats

Stats determine the outcome of some actions, and the behavior of your wrestler.

Here's a list:

  • Strength: Directly related to your Strength ability limit. Also affects the out come of moves with the lift key word.
  • Dexterity: Directly related to your Agility ability limit. Also affects the speed of your wrestler. Faster wrestler are able to perform more than one action per turn!
  • Constitution: Directly related to your HP and Strike ability. This controls how much HP you can have. Also affects your stamina during the match.
  • Intelligence: Directly related to your Knowledge ability. This also helps learn abilities faster.
  • Wisdom: Directly related to your Technical ability. This also helps improve abilities faster.
  • Charisma: This influences how the crowd react to your performance. Is helpful to have the crowd behind you!
  • Height: Directly related to the height keyword. Classes might have height prerequisites.
    • Small: Has many agility and technical proficiencies.
    • Normal: No benefit or disadvantage. Well rounded.
    • Tall: Strike and Strength proficiencies. Can be agile but with limitations.
    • Giant: Rare agility/technical capabilities. Take huge benefits of the lift key word.

Ability Limits

This is known for WA! players. This dictates the limits for certain ability type. It ranges from 0 to unlimited.

  • Agility
  • Knowledge
  • Strength
  • Strike
  • Technical

Gender

I think this is obvious but you select being a male or female.

Alignment

This is your tendency between face and heel. This will affect which moves you have available and who you can team up with!

  • Chaotic Face
    • Face to the extreme!
    • Won't play heel/illegal pages.
    • Won't team up with any neutral or heel alignment.
  • Lawful Face
    • Mainly Face behavior.
    • Might hesitate to play a heel/illegal page (might refuse to play it ditching the card!)
    • Will team up with any alignment Neutral Heel or above.
  • Neutral Face
    • Some Face behavior.
    • Won't hesitate to play a heel/illegal page when needed.
    • Will team up with any alignment but Chaotic Heel.
  • Neutral
    • No Heel/Face behavior.
    • Can play heel/face pages at will (still after playing a heel/face page won't be able to play the other type on the same match).
    • Will team up with any alignment.
  • Neutral Heel
    • Some Heel behavior.
    • Won't hesitate to play a heel/illegal page when needed.
    • Will team up with any alignment but Chaotic Face.
  • Lawful Heel
    • Mainly Heel behavior.
    • TBD
    • Will team up with any alignment Neutral Face or below.
  • Chaotic Heel
    • Heel to the extreme!
    • TBD
    • Won't team up with any neutral or face alignment.

The same type of approach will occur for the crowd in attendance to decide if they'll cheer for Face, Heel or both.

Classes

This is probably what will take the longer to decide/implement. Classes will determine the available abilities and wrestler's alignment options/restrictions. In other words a wrestler class like High Flyer would make easier to learn/use agility based pages/abilities but harder (not impossible) to learn strength based ones.

Generic Rules for Classes

  • A class should have at least one unlimited ability limit and a second one with at least a limit of 5.

Predefined wrestlers might break this

Note: Out of class means that gaining levels on this ability/limit costs twice as the ones within the class.

I don't like this

If you don't you can stick to predefined wrestlers. You won't have to struggle with abilities and such but you won't be able to customize them. In other words this is optional.

Work in Progress

More to come after I review the latest Dungeons and Dragons books. Also this might vary during the implementation phase.
