Adopt a JSR Program

This program is intended to encourage members of the LJC to get involved in a JSR and to evangelise that JSR to the wider LJC community in order to increase grass roots participation. We hope to turn this into a worldwide JUG lead program.

How to get Started

  1. Join the JCP as an individual member and then associate yourself with the LJC JUG (contact @kitty_lyst or @karianna on twitter if you can't find this step).
  2. Join http://www.java.net and make sure you add the LJC JUG project to your list of projects.
  3. In general, explore the JCP website to get a feel for the process.
  4. Have a read of The new JCP Process for JSRs.
  5. Join the mailing list of the JSR you are interested in and say something like

Details on specific JSR's we've adopted are below

JSR-310 (new Date and Time for Java)

The LJC is getting involved in JSR-310 as we believe it's a vital technology for the Java language as software increasingly needs to be date, time and time zone aware.

JSR in a Nutshell

Date and Calendar do not provide adequate functionality for day to day Java developers. JSR-310 addresses this with an implementation based on hard won lessons from JodaTime.

LJC Goal

To assist the threeten project in meeting the Technology Compatibility Kit (TCK) requirements of this JSR, a major milestone to having JSR-310 accepted as part of the Java language.
